Truth About Cataract Missions

Please be aware of so called "FREE CATARACT SCREENING" or FREE CATARACT SURGERIES, PHILHEALTH ONLY, or FREE CATARACT SCREENING for SENIOR CITIZENS", sponsored by eye specialist groups or Barangay centers, specially this coming August Sight Saving Month.

Chances are, their target is your PhilHealth benefits only. Most would ask for a certain sum of money (anywhere from Php3,000 to Php10,000) for materials to be used for your "free surgery", If you are advised by these cataract seekers and/or their doctors to undergo "free cataract surgery", make sure you get a second opinion from your regular eye doctor or Ophthalmologist.

And if you really need surgery, ask your doctor if he can perform the surgery using your Philhealth benefits, as the group or Barangay sponsored group is offering. Chances are your doctor will! Better have it done done by the  doctor you know and trust rather than someone you never saw before.

Just a friendly reminder from Clinica Tamesis.

Hand Washing

Hand washing is effective in preventing the transmission of germs and other organisms. This was stated by the World Health Organization Western Pacific Regional Office in 2003.

One must wash the hands after using the toilet, after wiping the nose, before eating, before preparing food.

Hand washing is best done with soap and running water. If water is not immediately available you can use a 70% alcohol based solution. However, try to wash your hands using running water and soap as soon as possible. Alcohol will not effectively clean your hands.

Dry your hands thoroughly after washing because damp hands collect germs and cause them to spread.
